The Culver line is elevated above McDonald from Ditmas Avenue south through Gravesend, the same steel columns that run past our own block. A flatbed cannot lift its deck beneath the structure, so a car stopped on McDonald comes out on the wheel-lift, or we walk it round the corner first. We do this on our own street; it is routine here.
Avenue U and the Kings Highway strip
Both are dense retail with bus routes and the curb permanently taken. A car that dies in the lane has to be moved before a proper hookup, and we do not tie up the avenue to do it — we get it to a hydrant or a side street and load there. Tell us the nearest cross street and whether it still rolls.
The Belt between Bay Parkway and Ocean Parkway
The Cropsey and Shell Road exits are short, the shoulder comes and goes, and the low stretch by Coney Island Creek floods in a heavy rain. On the Belt, the exit number and your direction locate you faster than anything else; from behind the barrier is where we want you when you call.
